Nothing but net, 2016, single channel video, 14:33

Downey works on the surface of the overhead using colored gels, cut shapes, inks, and other mixed media, and films the resulting projection on the wall. Using their own body as material, Downey interacts with these projections, drawing attention to the boundaries between self and an intimate other, as well as the relationship between language and their body. The imagery and text depict various forms of intimacy, with quick shifts between aggression, play, and tenderness.

Several plexiglas plates used to produce the video work were printed to make a series of monotypes (with Marina Ancona / 10 Grand Press).
